Experience 231 is a collaboration of several non-profits and governmental organizations that are working together to ensure the long-term enjoyment, protection, and preservation of the unique natural resources of Northern Michigan. The spectacular land, lakes and forests that they manage and maintain provide some of the best outdoor recreation experiences in the country including: hiking, biking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, swimming, paddling, and birding.

Garfield Township
Garfield Township borders Traverse City on two sides and is one of the most populated municipalities in Northern Michigan.

The Grand Traverse Conservation District
The Grand Traverse Conservation District inspires exploration, appreciation and conservation of our natural world.

Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation
The Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation Department creates community through recreational opportunities at its many diverse parks.

Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy
For two decades the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy has protected and cared for the region’s natural, scenic, farm and forest lands.

The Leelanau Conservancy
The Leelanau Conservancy is a nonprofit organization established in 1988 to support, in a balanced manner, the preservation of the natural beauty, ecological integrity and working farms of the Leelanau Peninsula.

TART Trails
TART Trails is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the Traverse region by providing a network of trails, bikeways and pedestrian ways; and encouraging their use.

Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation
The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation is the Experience 231 philanthropic partner. In cooperation, they provide support to the Experience 231 Project and it’s partner organizations. This support is critical as it allows these organizations to continually maintain, improve, and provide access to our treasured natural areas, trails, beaches, and waterways.
